NBIA Awards

Recognition of achievements by members and non-members in support of the New Brunswick Agriculture Industry is one of the important activities that the New Brunswick Institute of Agrologists undertakes. The N.B.I.A. offers six different awards each year. The awards are as follows:

The Awards Committee administers the granting of the awards under the guidance of Council. The NBIA also offers an NBIA Scholarship.

Agricultural Leadership

  1. Object - to officially recognize outstanding achievement by a New Brunswick farmer as a leader in the Industry.
  2. Eligibility - Agricultural producers operating a farm in the Province of N.B. This includes owner-operators of farm units; managers of cooperative partnerships, institutional and corporate farms; part or full time farmers in any field of Agricultural production.
  3. Award - The "Louis Hébert" trophy, a sower wood carving named after the first farmer in Canada as recorded in history (1604).
  4. Criteria of Selection - Individual achievement, preference to bona fide farmers; commitment, dedication, initiative and persistence, communications with large number of farmers; reasonable success of his/her farm operation; and impact of achievements on the Agricultural Industry.
  5. Note - This award constitutes the N.B.I.A. share of an exchange with the N.B. Federation of Agriculture. The Federation sponsors an "Agrologist of the Year" award.


Agricultural Initiative

For significant contribution in any agrology field (private or public) by an individual working in New Brunswick agriculture who:

  1. Has not received an A.I.C. National Award;
  2. Is less than 40 years of age;
  3. Is a member of NBIA.


Distinguished Service to N.B. Agriculture

The candidate:

  1. 1. Has not received an A.I.C. National Award;
  2. Has more than 25 years service (private or public);
  3. Is a member of N.B.I.A.


Agricultural Environmental Stewardship

This award recognizes producers who have contributed to New Brunswick's agricultural sustainability by adopting or developing environmentally responsible production practices.


NBIA Scholarship

The N.B.I.A. has provided a scholarship of $1,000 for a resident of N.B. entering the third year degree course in Agriculture at a Canadian Educational Institution. Interested applicants should contact the Registrar of N.B.I.A. not later than July 1.
